Often times, products have secondary or even tertiary uses that emerge as the product is developed or even after it enters the market. The purpose of a wooden ruler is to draw straight lines and to measure short distances. When I was a schoolboy, it was often used as a means of inflicting punishment on boys but it was never intended or marketed to be such. It is important to ensure that the message you send about your product's intended use is consistent with it's original core purpose and even if you identify other applications, always be careful not to confuse your core target market with mixed messages as to the products purpose.
