Design for Manufacture is the process of ensuring that parts are designed in a way that allows them to be manufactured in the most cost effective and efficient manner. It applies mainly to bespoke manufactured parts as opposed to bought in components. During the design phase the designer should be aware of the process and the material that will be used to produce the final component. It applies to moulded, vacuum cast, 3D printed, CNC machined, and many other production processes commonly used.
